Title: Maison Blanche pitch size
Post by: philsmith on July 04, 2010, 03:22:29 pm
I haven't been to Maison Blanche campsite since they introduced numbered pitches.
I have just put the tent up in the garden for a trial run (not used since Spa a few years ago and covered in Belgian mud!) and find it measures a little over 5M square.
My question is, how tight are the numbered pitches and does it matter if you spill over a little?
I have plot number J10 and looking at the map this pitch seems to be in quite an open area.

Also, is there electricity supplied still?

The usual pitch is 5 by 7 meters, so 5M square shouldn't be a problem.

But you are supposed to get your car on the pitch as well.
If you spill over it depends on how good your neighbours are, there is no buffer area between pitchs.

Thanks for the replies.
Ii is over 5M, probably about 5.2m, but its difficult to measure, and that's not including the guide ropes.
I wouldn't consider it a big tent, just a six person family tent.
If you have to put the car on the plot where do the people go? ???
The plots seem a little small to me
I suppose you just have to hope your neighbors are considerate.

Problem is they are usually in the same boat, guy ropes into next door pitchs is usually not to much of a problem, anything more is.
7 x 5 is very tight, most holiday pitchs are 10 x 10.

ACO is basically working on one car plus 2 small tents per pitch.
We have worked out on paper that we can get the car, tent 2 x 2m and a 3 x 3m gazebo on the pitch, just, but we are having to bring the smaller of our 2 cars.

True, pitches tend to be base around a 2 person car and one or two small tents.  Need any more space - you would need more pitches.

Consider also your neighbour relations.  Would you be happy if your neighbour pitched his marquee on to your allocated pitch?

Ah, 5M square sound as a 5 square meters to me. But now I see it is 5 by 5 meters, then a standard pitch will be a bit tiny.

I thought the general rule was a 5m x 7M giving you 35 Square Meters.

Personaly I have a Large 4 man Tent you can stand up in and it has a space for Table and Chairs.  I can get that a Laguna in the space your given and still have room for a BBQ.  YEs the Piches are a bit small but they are Adequate.

Yep - thats the official ACO measurement, tho it varies a bit on the ground - plus what you get isnt always useable!

A top tip, Rather than park your car on within the pitch as long as you are close to one of the MB circuit gravel traps, park your car in by the gravel trap. As long as you are the other side of the white track line you will be ok. It may mean a bit of a walk to the car, but at least you can drop of beer and provisions at the pitch and then park up ;)
