Title: Silverstone Post by: Lord Steve on June 20, 2010, 07:14:47 pm I know that a fair few of you are heading to the classic in July but is anyone thinking about the final round of the Le Mans series at Silverstone over the weekend of 11th / 12th September?
Whittlebury Hall camping for me I think. Weekend entrance tickets are £26 advance and £35 on the gate. Title: Re: Silverstone Post by: landman on June 20, 2010, 08:36:03 pm Glad someone's posted up about this. I've been looking at the website today.
On the booking page it gives a choice of entry ticket, and camping. The camping is £25, but for where? Is the actual race Sunday only? Paul. Title: Re: Silverstone Post by: Ade on June 20, 2010, 08:50:45 pm Glad someone's posted up about this. I've been looking at the website today. No idea where the camping is. I usually camp at Whittlebury Hall, which I will be doing this year.On the booking page it gives a choice of entry ticket, and camping. The camping is £25, but for where? Is the actual race Sunday only? Paul. The race is on Sunday. Qualifying & classic car race on Saturday. Ade Title: Re: Silverstone Post by: landman on June 20, 2010, 09:03:41 pm Thanks Ade.
Sounds like WH for me then. Might have 2 of the kids in tow, so prefer somewhere quieter this time. Rgds, Paul. Title: Re: Silverstone Post by: Fran on June 20, 2010, 09:33:45 pm Ack - I thought I could make it this year, but yet again its the weekend when I get back from holiday on the Saturday afternoon. Might try and make a day visit on Sunday en route back up to Manchester as I did once before, but its doubtful.

Sounds like a plan Steve, although having stored our camping gear in France we would opt for a hotel.Whittlebury Hall camping for me I think. If they use the same camping location as they did for FIA GT's then in will be just outside the gate at Copse Corner, i.e. a 30 seconds walk into the circuit! Title: Re: Silverstone Post by: slash on June 21, 2010, 12:38:10 pm The Murvi crew are planning a small end of season assault on this one.
Apparently the camping tickets on the Silverstone website are for a site called Woodlands which is run by the circuit, I tried to find out more details but nobody in the bookings office seems to have a clue about it ! We were thinking of getting there on Thursday afternoon and having a few at the pub in Silverstone village, so it would be good to find out if the campsite will be open then, anyone been to this event before, and can give us a steer ? Sounds about right that the booking office doesn't know! The campsite has only been in use this year for a few events, and hasn't been used in previous years. You could always try the general number - 0844 3728 200, you never know someone might have a clue! Dunno about the third, could even be Roy! Meesh and I do have plans to come over for the Friday Night Beer Do in Basingstoke, but will dissapear to Bournemouth for the Saturday (to visit Meesh's sister). We'll be at Silverstone on raceday and leave by ferry that same evening. But there's another big happening in the UK that weekend; European dragstrip races at Santa Pod - unfortunately the weekend is too short to visit that too, guess we can't have it all :-\ Title: Re: Silverstone Post by: Piglet on June 23, 2010, 09:33:10 pm We'll be there for the weekend on the marshal's campsite. I'm planning to Marshal on Saturday and drink beer on Sunday...actually might reconsider which way around as will have to drive home....
I'll have a look at some of the GP info - I think Woodlands is one of the GP campsites. Apparently for MotoGP there was punter camping out at Club corner which must be a newly created site... I'll try to see what I can find out... Title: Re: Silverstone Post by: LangTall on June 24, 2010, 07:55:00 am Let'S find a 4th perosn, and get a ferry booked. :) Who is the 3rd? I ask because obviously circuit side will be much better for me but I need to book this and it would be good to know if there were going to be some friendly faces about - it will be my first venture out without a helper for over two years!
Title: Re: Silverstone Post by: Lord Steve on July 23, 2010, 01:23:15 pm Hi Deb
I thought I'd try Litchlake again this year, used it for the first time last year and it's just opposite the main entrance so access is easy. Whittlebury would be very difficult if you're still wheelchair bound. Steve Title: Re: Silverstone Post by: Lazy B'stard on July 23, 2010, 03:00:38 pm I might make the sunday agin but not a Silverstone fan and it is a long way.

Olly and I going up on the Saturday morning and we will be camping at Whittlebury. If you are feeling lazy then I can drive you around to the main entrance, as it is on the flat. I agree it is a trek from the campsite and not really suitable for crutches or wheelchairs, plus at the moment it would be too far for me to walk anyway,in my delicate state :) Andy Title: Re: Silverstone Post by: termietermite on July 23, 2010, 07:07:29 pm Thanks that is a very kind offer. However, I can do the driving bit that's not so much of a problem. It's more about pitching tents and coping with the slopes etc on the site. I felt if the Silverstone camping (which at £20 is also good value) were where the martials were when I last went then it would be better as it's on the flat and very close by. On the other hand if everybody is at Whittlebury then it could be better, even given the difference in cost and the inconvenience of being so car away.
Steve, how much does your campsite cost, approx? Title: Re: Silverstone Post by: Lord Steve on July 23, 2010, 10:42:06 pm Hi Debs
I'm there tomorrow for the classic and Litchlake (opposite the entrance) is £10 pp per night. However, for the 1000kms I'm going to Whittlebury so you need not worry about pitching your tent or getting to the track - you will have plenty of willing helpers. Last year Whittlebury was £15pp per night from memory. Steve Title: Re: Silverstone Post by: geoffd on July 26, 2010, 09:11:27 am I felt if the Silverstone camping (which at £20 is also good value) were where the martials were when I last went then it would be better as it's on the flat and very close by. I believe the Silverstone camping will be just the other side of the fence (i.e. outside of the payline) at copse corner, so literally only a few minutes, if that, to get into the circuit. |
