But note that it only gives you free to air programmes. Title: Re: TV - France Post by: DelBoy on April 30, 2010, 05:17:29 pm The dish is a bit small (35cm). The further south you go, a bigger dish is required.
For LM area, it is recommended that you have a 50cm dish, especially for the channels coming from the Astra 2D satellite which has a very focussed beam (on the UK) - trouble is, I don't know which channels come from which of the three Astra satellites! It's always a bit of a lottery as to how long it takes to get the dish pointing in the right direction and elevation - especially after a few cold ones!! Had this size up and running for months at our venue Le Bounty it was from Maplins. Now replaced with one a bit larger than the ones used in the UK but a lot less than 1m Just get a clear view to the Sat and set up on the ground the dish does not have to be high up and setting up on the ground is more easy. But the Sat is very close to 2 others and only need very very fine adjustment to get the correct one. Next time I am over will get a compass reading for you all Title: Re: TV - France Post by: Jules G on April 30, 2010, 07:09:42 pm Neil,
I look forward to watching some racing and footie at your camp site enclosure in June then ;) ;D ;D ;D Jules G Title: Re: TV - France Post by: Lorry on April 30, 2010, 11:07:18 pm 35CM is a bit small for the Dish according to most of the specialist sites. There is a contour map that shows the signal dropping off once you get into Normandy. Once you hit the Med you need Jodrell Bank as Sky are so mean. I'm sure I've heard that standard Sky dishes work, and they're 43 cm. Depends on the LNB too
Maplin do a similar kit which used to come with a 60 cm dish, and that works well from Blue Nord, but you need a post to bolt it to. They also do a 39cm dish in a suitcase for camping Why not take a dvd player instead. That way there's a chance England might win ;D And check out Aldis other bargains - garden chairs, parasol lamps, trailer locks etc They must think summer is here Title: Re: TV - France Post by: DelBoy on May 01, 2010, 12:20:32 pm (http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a266/delboy9/2_dsmall.gif) Light blue (inner 'circle') - 50cm dish Dark blue 60 Green 75 .....etc Del Title: Re: TV - France Post by: termietermite on May 01, 2010, 12:32:27 pm My Sky Mini-dish (53) works fine here. 35... I'd be a bit worried. Whatever, buy in the UK, this stuff is silly price over here if you're paid in sterling.

Whatever, buy in the UK, this stuff is silly price over here if you're paid in sterling. Well found Del. Termie proves the point again - size matters!Last year (I'm told) Bricomarche had some deals on Analogue kits, which will pick up Eurosport1 Compared with some of the other aspects of Le Mans (or the new kitchen - AAAAAAAAAAAAAAArgh), this is getting rather simple, and don't forget Kangaroo TV Title: Re: TV - France Post by: johnhere on May 03, 2010, 12:07:10 pm I can guarantee a 39cm dish (mini dish) will work fine in Le Mans.
As I said before the problem is finding the right satillite as its very close to 2 others. As long as you have a clear view then you should have no problems......clear includes no trees or bushes in the way. Title: Re: TV - France Post by: termietermite on May 03, 2010, 12:52:18 pm Dish configuration for finding UK Freesat channels from LM :
Azimuth 144.3 Elevation 28.54 Polarisation Angle -15.48 Eurosport is encryped whether you connect via Freesat or TNT (the French equivalent) so I guess you also need a card or something for other than free-to-air (I get my Eurosport via a Canal + package here.) Analogue signals are being phased out but I don't know when as I don't have an aerial myself. Title: Re: TV - France Post by: Lord Steve on May 03, 2010, 09:42:56 pm You're all very technical. Can't I just find a bar in Olde Le Mans that will show the Enland games? Or better still in Olde Arnage?
Title: Re: TV - France Post by: Lorry on May 03, 2010, 11:11:26 pm You're all very technical....... This is nothing compared to the kitchen. I've just found 2.7metres of cabinet in a 2.6 metre gap. I thought computers couldn't do that. Lots of pretty pictures though. And I hear that analogue Eurosport is good for another few months. Dish alignment is simple with a compass, unless you've got a magnetic dish like mine. Title: Re: TV - France Post by: Brad Zarse on May 04, 2010, 10:43:57 am We've always used a standard Sky Minidish - it's not perfect, as when it really hacks down, the signal will go - but that happens here too. It takes a while to set up, but isn't actually THAT hard - I think it's normally down to the fact that I'm trying to do it a little worse for wear normally that takes the time :)
Having thought long and hard about this though, I am of the opinion, that the best place to watch the football is likely to be at the Tetre Rouge Stella Bar, or the Guiness Bar in the village - SURELY they'll have the game on? Title: Re: TV - France Post by: geoffd on May 04, 2010, 02:11:30 pm Having thought long and hard about this though, I am of the opinion, that the best place to watch the football is likely to be at the Tetre Rouge Stella Bar, or the Guiness Bar in the village - SURELY they'll have the game on? Based on the volume of beer being drunk by English patrons, almost certainly! As an aside, I was in a sports bar in London watching the Belgian GP once (the one where micky cobbler ran into the back of DC I think) and they switched it over to footie half way through, almost everyone drunk up and walked 10 yards down the road to the next pub which had the GP on! Talk about not understanding your customers! Tertre Rouge should have the football on, at least they had it on in the past. Don't know about the Guiness bar. Title: Re: TV - France Post by: Kpy on May 05, 2010, 11:36:27 am Football doesn't interest me, but as far as I can see, the schedule looks like this:
Friday, June 11 4pm - South Africa v Mexico 8.30pm - Uruguay v France Saturday, June 12 1.30pm - South Korea v Greece 4pm - Argentina v Nigeria 8.30pm - England v USA Sunday, June 13 1.30pm - Algeria v Slovenia 4pm - Serbia v Ghana 8.30pm - Germany v Australia There will be no problem finding somewhere to watch the Friday evening game, but are any of the local bars really likely to be showing a game during the race ??? Title: Re: TV - France Post by: termietermite on May 05, 2010, 02:16:39 pm I do seem to remember, Christopher, that one year a UK-involved footie match was shown on a big screen in the village (must have been in '98 I think.) It was lovely and peaceful round the circuit at the time.... ;)
Title: Re: TV - France Post by: johnhere on May 05, 2010, 06:50:04 pm Dont forget guys to add 1 hour on if you are looking at UK times of kickoff.

Title: Re: TV - France Post by: jpchenet on May 06, 2010, 12:27:55 am In the UK I believe the World Cup games are always shown on Terrestrial TV??????? What channels are showing it in France?
If it's the same, surely all we need is a Terrestrial Tuner Box and a standard aerial and a screen?? Or is that trying to simplify things too much? I have a USB TV Tuner that picks up UK TV OK on my laptop, maybe that would work? Christopher? Debs? John? Title: Re: TV - France Post by: Brad Zarse on May 06, 2010, 09:59:39 am Given that they're on Terrestrial, a freesat box will be sufficient (which I should have up and working by LM).
I have a projector as well - I'm going to speak with Rex and work out whether we can build a scaffolding based canopy on the side of the popemobile, thus shading the screen, and providing a good view of the picture. At the moment it's all a bit up in the air though :) Title: Re: TV - France Post by: termietermite on May 06, 2010, 01:07:43 pm JPC, if the footie is on TNT (the French equivalent of Freeview/sat) then yes, I think you must be correct. But as I don't have a conventional aerial I don't know for sure (I get my French TV via Canal+ as it includes Motors and Eurosport) and as neither of the Termites has the slightest interest in the sight of 22 blokes kicking a ball about..... (real men pick them up and run with them, don't you know? ;))

Title: Re: TV - France Post by: jpchenet on May 06, 2010, 02:07:35 pm Looks like French broadcasts will be on either TF1 Group or Eurosport.
I seem to recall some dicussion before (probably 4 years ago) about UK TV's not being compatible with French transmissions? Any ideas? Title: Re: TV - France Post by: termietermite on May 06, 2010, 02:08:48 pm Very few modern UK TVs are incompatible, if any.
Title: Re: TV - France Post by: Kpy on May 06, 2010, 02:32:14 pm French terrestrial TV is digital, so no compatibility problems.
Yes the football is being broadcast on terrestrial TV in France. A TV with digital tuner and conventional aerial will pick that up. All matches over Le Mans w/e are on TF1, except Saturday 12 June: 13h30 Korea - Greece - France 3 Sunday 13 June: 16h Serbia - Ghana - France 2 20h30 Germany - Australia - France 2 Title: Re: TV - France Post by: Rusty on May 10, 2010, 02:22:55 pm We'll be routing for Australia in Roeun on the Sunday night then ;D
