Title: Portsmouth to Le Havre Post by: landman on October 05, 2009, 05:16:08 pm This could be good news for those of us who live at the fashionable end of the Channel
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8290398.stm Hoping for a faster crossing at a cheaper rate. Fingers crossed Title: Re: Portsmouth to Le Havre Post by: Black Granny on October 05, 2009, 05:18:17 pm This could be good news for those of us who live at the fashionable end of the Channel http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8290398.stm Hoping for a faster crossing at a cheaper rate. Title: Re: Portsmouth to Le Havre Post by: Barry on October 05, 2009, 05:36:04 pm Will probabley be the end of the overnight service though.
I don't think any of the cat services run at night. Which will only leave Brittany if you want to do an overnighter. Title: Re: Portsmouth to Le Havre Post by: landman on October 05, 2009, 05:40:44 pm True, but for those of us who live close to Pompey the thought of an early ferry crossing & same day arrival at LM is not an unpleasant one, is it? ;D
Might have an affect on Brittany Pirates prices? I've been checking prices recently and there are no western Channel crossing prices yet. Down at the other end: - Norfolk Line £45 P&O £60 Sea France £80 Need to get my spread sheet out to calculate at what cost a western Channel crossing becomes more affordable, what fun! Title: Re: Portsmouth to Le Havre Post by: Barry on October 05, 2009, 06:39:55 pm I've been checking prices recently and there are no western Channel crossing prices yet. Brittany opened up their booking system to cover June and July yesterday. Booked for our trip to the Classic with them already. Title: Re: Portsmouth to Le Havre Post by: Lorry on October 05, 2009, 07:13:03 pm I agree with FS. Pompey just seems easier, you get a few beers in the bar, and a short drive the other side, but its does cost. For me its about 12 hours door to door either way at the minute, and spending most of that time on the boat is far easier. Now Le Havre will be quicker but at Brittany prices
Title: Re: Portsmouth to Le Havre Post by: landman on October 05, 2009, 07:34:14 pm £176 Pompey to Caen.
Just beats driving via Dover by £20. Time is a few minutes longer via Pompey. BUT, as Lorry says there's time for relaxation/beer while onboard! Title: Re: Portsmouth to Le Havre Post by: Lorry on October 05, 2009, 09:00:06 pm Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggggggggggh
BUT, as Lorry says there's time for relaxation/beer while onboard! But with a Seacat on the Le Havre route, you won't have time to sleep it off.Mind you, if we're there 4 hours earlier, thats another 4 hours on the Kanterbrau Title: Re: Portsmouth to Le Havre Post by: Lorry on October 05, 2009, 09:10:55 pm £176 Pompey to Caen. Caen is the easiest for the truck but who knows what they will throw at us :o Pompey is my only departure point... Full Stop! BUT, as Lorry says there's time for relaxation/beer while onboard! What are your crossing dates / times to get that price? It only offers me crossings around the £290 mark. ??? Title: Re: Portsmouth to Le Havre Post by: Jules G on October 06, 2009, 12:41:40 pm Could one of the seasoned travellers confirm the journey times upon arrival in either Le Harve or Cherbourg to LM, we may switch from the Dover routes next year. ta muchly :)
Title: Re: Portsmouth to Le Havre Post by: landman on October 06, 2009, 12:46:06 pm Google says 3.5 hours from Cherbourg to LM and 2 hours 19 minutes from Caen.
In reality you COULD do it faster than that, but would you want to unless running late? I favour an earlier arrival and a slow cruise down to LM unlike the last 2 years where it's been a blat down the A28 to arrive at a sensible hour.
